Are there any other types of "party's" people throw for brides/the couple?

My mom recently mentioned wanting to throw me a surprise bachelorette party. I do not have many girl friends (no wedding party), so while this was a nice thought, I could not get over the idea that it would be very awkward spending my bachelorette with my mom.My first thought was that maybe she would want to throw some other type of party instead. I know there are bridal showers, stag and doe, etc, but I would really like to avoid any type of party that insinuates guests should be spending money/buying us gifts.
