Couples who DIYed their wedding music, how were your results?

Hello everyone,I'm considering going sans DJ for my wedding. I would love to have one, but our budget is tight and the groom says he does not care about having one, so I'm the only one pushing for it. We are comparing our options (hiring a pro DJ, hiring a wannabe DJ, or just creating a playlist and enlisting a friend to press play). I want to hear from people who gone the latter route to hear your thoughts on how it worked out.Did it go well? Were people dancing all night?What are your tips for creating a great playlist?How did the ceremony run?
