Cost of lighting packages

I'm trying to understand the price of lighting packages and the work that goes into it to justify the cost.To start, my (inclusive) venue has in-house lighting and offers different packages. Without lighting, the white LED lights are turned on and left on... not a great alternative for a 6:30 pm wedding. Here are the packages...Uplighting only: $450Platinum package: $900Includes uplighting, downlighting, wash lighting, spotlights, moving lights.Crystal package: $1300Includes the platinum package plus crystal decor throughout the venue. So, overall, pricy. Without lighting, my total venue cost is looking like 9,000 so this is a 10% increase. So here's my question: I can imagine the amount of work it takes to set up the platinum package if an outside company sets it up. They have to come in with ladders and equipment and hang stuff... plus hire one or two people to be on site to run the lights. That alone would justify the $900.Since it's in house, I know they have the equipment set up (we've seen it) and they mentioned that the DJ has control over the lights. It seems like, with this set up, we're paying $900 for someone to flip a few switches and press buttons while they're already present pressing buttons. My question is, I'm obviously not in the "wedding lights industry" so I don't actually get it. Is this truly a fair price? I'd hate to have my evening wedding look like a tacky middle school formal with the lights turned up so the chaperones can make sure no one is grinding, you know? At the same time, my fiancé can't swallow the additional 10% we'd be paying for "someone to flip a switch."Thanks! via /r/weddingplanning http://ift.tt/2tBL1SP
