Momma's on the Warpath

I received a phone call from my mom today. She was really fired up and I finally got the story out of her after her doing some weird curiosity buildup.My girl and I are getting married on top of a mountain at a ski resort. Our guests have to ride a ski lift to the top, and this is the only way for them to get there. We have had no issues until my father's parents said they didn't want to. My grandma has never ridden one, and we think it's fear, but she won't say. We have said that she has time to decide, but she can always go to the reception only if she feels that way. Dad's been working to figure out what the exact issue is, but he's not exactly forthcoming.However, apparently grandma talked to her sister, who's my great aunt. Said aunt is up in arms because I didn't invite her two children (neither live at home mind you). I'm not close to any of them, and they aren't immediate family. Aunt is all "did she think they wouldn't come?" She and her husband were invited, and she already asked if she could bring the daughter instead if husband's work prevented him, which I didn't care because either way I pay for a plate.Mom's not happy because great aunt is apparently talking to others about this whole thing, as it got back to her via a daycare parent. Mom's ready to put a nice little "bug" in anyone's ear who decides to talk about it, as she knows I only invited family out of tradition and respect, and would have rather not had any of them (we already don't speak to her side of the family and haven't for over a decade). We also didn't have this issue when my younger brother got married a couple of years ago either. He also only invited immediate family so we're not sure why the issue is cropping up now.It's very frustrating to my mom, and she knows it doesn't bother me who comes or not because the less people that come, the less I pay for food (plated service), and the less I pay for lift fare (charged per person).
